Resumo: The present investigation seeks to analyze the embryonic revitalization process in an area that, despite its disqualified state, presents a great potential for regeneration - Campanhã. The beginning of this study starts with a territorial analysis of the framework of Campanhã, with the aim of understanding the most outstanding features of this eastern part of Porto. The impact of industrialization in the 19th century, was a catalyst for new forms of Architecture and urban growth that until today, have marked the prevailing features of a unique peripheral condition. The industrial buildings, infrastructure and houses that were born from this cycle, have moved through different generations and ended up producing many inertias in the eastern area. Campanhã's image today is still marked by the stigma of poverty and exclusion, by a confused urban network, characterized by different environments, from farms, to problematic social districts, islands, heavy infrastructure, abandoned factories and warehouses. The concern of rethinking the role that these environments may play in urban rehabilitation, is emerging in this old industrial zone. The transformation and rupture programs that are taking place are part of the embryonic revitalization process, however it has a very strong narrative capacity. In this study three cases of intervention were chosen as potential catalysts for this change. Underlying these cases are a set of social dynamics that are important to understand in order to clarify the way the actors involved contribute to the revitalization strategy and what the role of architecture has as a process of transformation.
