Idadismo: um estudo em cinco freguesias do baixo concelho da P?voa de Lanhoso

Atitudes e comportamentos negativos em rela??o aos indiv?duos baseados somente numa carater?stica, a idade cronol?gica, s?o experienciadas por pessoas idosas em m?ltiplas sociedades. Realizamos um estudo quantitativo com o objetivo de avaliar o idadismo, verificar se existe rela??o entre atitudes idadistas e a idade e qual o papel das perce??es de estado de sa?de nessa rela??o. Foram inquiridas 356 pessoas, 135 homens e 221 mulheres, com uma m?dia de idades de 53,51% (DP = 20.27) residentes em cinco freguesias do baixo concelho da P?voa de Lanhoso. Como instrumentos de medida foram utilizadas a vers?o resumida da Escala de Solid?o (Hughes, Waite, Hawley, & Cacioppo, 2008), a Escala de Satisfa??o com a Vida (Diener, Emmons, Larsen, & Griffin, 1985); a Escala Breve de Redes Sociais de Lubben (LSNS-6) (Ribeiro et al., 2012) e a Escala Ambivalente de Idadismo (Cary, Chasteen & Remedios, 2017). Foi igualmente utilizado um question?rio sociodemogr?fico, recursos sociais, sa?de f?sica e emocional. A m?dia dos diferentes itens da subescala est? compreendida entre 2,46?1,05 e 3,22?0,64. Quando comparamos as diferen?as da nossa amostra, com os itens da amostra de refer?ncia verificamos diferen?as, estatisticamente significativas, em doze dos treze itens. A idade (anos) correlaciona-se positivamente com os nove itens do idadismo. Na an?lise dos itens do idadismo e da idade, tendo em conta as perce??es de sa?de, constat?mos que s?o as pessoas que tem uma melhor perce??o de sa?de que s?o mais idadistas. As diferen?as encontradas entre os nossos resultados e os da amostra de refer?ncia podem ser explicadas tanto nas caracter?sticas da amostra como ao n?vel cultural. / Older people in multiple societies experience negative attitudes and behaviours toward individuals based on only one characteristic: the chronological age. We conducted a quantitative study to evaluate the ageism, verify the relationship between ageist attitudes and age, and the role of health perceptions in this this relationship. A total of 356 people were surveyed, 135 males and 221 females, with a mean age of 53.51 (SD = 20.27) living in five parishes of the lower municipality of P?voa de Lanhoso. The measuring instruments used were the abbreviated version of Loneliness Scale (Hughes, Waite, Hawley, & Cacioppo, 2008), the Satisfaction with Life Scale (Diener, Emmons, Larsen, & Griffin, 1985), the Brief Scale Social Networks of Lubben (LSNS-6) (Ribeiro et al., 2012) and the Ambivalent Scale of Ageism (Cary, Chasteen & Remedios, 2017). We also used a socio-demographic questionnaire of social resources, physical and emotional health. The average of the different items of the subscale is between 2.46 ? 1.05 and 3.22 ? 0.64. When comparing the differences in our sample with the items in the reference sample, we verified statistically significant differences in twelve of the thirteen items. Age (years) correlates positively with the nine items of ageism (p > 0.05). In the analysis of items of ageism and age, and taking into account the health perceptions, we found that people who have a better understanding of health are the most ageists. The differences found between our results and those of the reference sample can be explained both in the characteristics of the sample and in the cultural level.
