Resumo: The present dissertation explores the combination between themes of architecture and public space with themes of performance, observing the compositions and transformations generated in space from dynamism, itinerancy and ephemerality. The discussion seeks to establish topics that connect performance to architecture, in order to support an analysis of architecture as a performance in itself. To this end, this journey starts, in a chronological order, from the relationship between space and the performing arts as a whole throughout history, from approximately the 4th century B.C. to the 21st century. The evolution of theatrical buildings is shown (spaces of performances whose idealizations were products of different historical contexts), as well as some of the reformulations in the performing arts that affected the perceptions of space. The extravasation of performances outside the institutional buildings towards the public space is discussed and, consequently, it is possible to see how the fusion of the quotidian life and the spectacle took place. Finally, in order to foster the discussion on the aspects that bring architecture closer to performance, the 'Teatro del Mondo' is listed as an example of performance-architecture. The Venice Biennale is an event that has been taking place since the end of the 19th century with the aim of promoting and rescuing the city's cultural legacy. In the 1979-80 edition, Teatro del Mondo, by Aldo Rossi, became famous in the scope of the exhibition entitled 'Venezia e lo Spacio Scenico'. Inspired by a similar event that took place in the 16th century (the floating theatres of the Venice carnival companies), the Teatro del Mondo was an ambitious project for a moving show. Leaving Venice, the theatre boat travelled through countless other destinations along the Adriatic coast until it reached its final destination, Dubrovnik, Croatia. The urban scenography and the itinerancy of the show are elements that provoke deep discussions in the scope of the of the Architecture and the design.
