Resumo: | This paper proposes to study the use of color in architect Álvaro Siza's built work in Portugal. Through some relevant artists in the history of the international modern painting and architecture as Pablo Picasso, Paul Cézanne, Kasimir Malevich, Theo Van Doesburg, J.P.Oud, taking the analysis of the national scene since the mid twentieth century to the present by identifying the most outstanding authors, whom, somehow, influenced his architecture, with particular emphasis on the Portuguese architect Fernando Távora. Based on a field trip, we describe more accurately some works under review in order to validate or refute some ideas contained in publications about the author. The color's study does not cover, of course, the whole essence of the architecture of Álvaro Siza, neither aims to describe a method or rule to justify his choices of a certain color to each building. However, this intends to be a starting point for understanding his work in a different way and inciting, especially, the interest in seeing beyond a few pre-conceptions that appear to have been created around this architect and that have been widespread in some shallow critics It is intended to arouse curiosity for this aspect of his work and try, if necessary, break the "myth" of the "white architecture". |
