Resumo: This project aimed to investigate the influence of frequent public performances in the student’s motivation for instrumentpracticing. It also aimed to study the impact of those frequent public performances in the acquisition of cognitive, performativeand musical competences. The study was applied to a set of 23 students of a musical instrument – flute – distributed inone control group and in one experimental group. Several tools (questionnaires, student evaluation forms and performanceevaluation forms) were used to collect essential information leading to the conclusion of this investigation and to answer thequestions involved. The results suggest an impact of frequent public performance in several aspects of the learning processof students.

The results suggest an impact of frequent public performance in several aspects of the learning processof students.Esta investigação teve por objetivo primário averiguar a influência da realização de momentos performativos frequentes na motivação dos alunos para o estudo do instrumento musical, analisando também o seu impacto na aquisição de competências cognitivas, performativas e musicais. O estudo foi aplicado a um conjunto de 23 alunos de instrumento – flauta transversal – do ensino vocacional da música, distribuídos por um grupo de controlo e por um grupo experimental. Foram utilizadas diversas ferramentas de obtenção de dados (questionários, fichas de avaliação do aluno e fichas de avaliação da performance) que permitiram a recolha de informação conducente à conclusão da investigação e resolução da problemática nela envolvida.
