Between a motive of struggle and a disappointment: Angola written in the short stories A Revelação and O nosso país é bué, of Pepetela

The short stories A Revelação of 1962 and O nosso país é bué of 1999, both of Pepetela, are separated from each other by a period of more than three decades, in which profound changes occurred in Angola, arising from the pre and post-independence historical process , wars and the political and social organization of the country. In the figure of two boys, protagonists, the author represents in these stories a sense of identity that is always changing. Candimba, in A Revelação, in his innocent, puerile form, begins to understand the world around him and feels on the skin the domination of the colonizer, white, manifested by the racism that suffocates the voice of the colonized, black. Lito in O nosso país é bué is national dream, represented in the oil that could be extracted in a well in the backyard, to the realization that “after all, the country was not as good as it had imagined.” Both young people, but in distinct times, passes the generation of utopia between them. In the first kid is a starting point, a fuse for reality of struggle and war for independence that would come. In the latter, the end of the nationalist illusion and the shock of a reality again to be built in the midst of the other war. Thus from one to another, as in a bird flight that sets its eyes on Candimba, then turns to Lito and continues its way, is Angola, represented in the vision of Pepetela.
