Manipulação nos discursos presidenciais de tomada de posse do Estado Novo – estratégias discursivas e manipulatórias

Resumo: Under the scope of an interdisciplinary approach of Discourse Analysis, this article focuses on Estado Novo’s (1926-1974) presidential inaugural addresses. We will be working under the hypothesis that presidential speeches (as well as all other institutional interventions) were aligned with the ideology of the dictatorial regime. Our work examines the global dis-cursive strategies and the local manipulative strategies (Charaudeau, 2009) found to be indicative of manipulation. This article has been divided in three parts to focus on the discursive strategies of legitimacy, credibility and audience engaging. We have concluded that (1) the legitimacy of the President of the Republic’s status (as well as the rework of the speaker’s institutional ethos) serves as the basis of the manipulation in these speeches; (2) negative emotions are created to engaged the audience; (3) the image and credibility of the speaker are a result of local manipulative strategies; (4) the different manipulative strategies follow the prototypical structure of popular tales of adventure; and (5) the manipulative agenda of these strategies changes over time.

Este artigo propôs-se, partindo da hipótese de que os discursos presidenciais de tomada de posse no Estado Novo confluem para o discurso propagandista e doutrinário do regime, analisar as estratégias discursivas globais e as estratégias manipulatórias locais (Charaudeau, 2009) indicadoras de um discurso de manipulação. Para tal, organizámos a análise em três partes de forma a focar estratégias discursivas de legitimidade, de credibilidade e de captação do público.
