Faced with a constant touristification of the city of Porto, especially Ribeira-Barredo, and the consequent social repercussions caused by this phenomenon, this dissertation aims to study, through the analysis of different master plans and studies, how we can intervene better in the consolidated city to improve the lives of the people who live there. Consequently, this dissertation approaches the area through a social-urban contextualization about the city of Porto and its evolution. Then we study the different transformation processes to which Ribeira-Barredo was subjected, until we reach the present time. Through the analysis of the existing, its morphology, uses and ambiences, we try to understand the results of previous transformations. After this study and to deepen our analysis, we selected an area, the case of Lada, which for the diverse masterplans, studies and projects throughout time, allows us to analyze and reflect on different positions, hypotheses and, consequently, intervention options in a slightly more specific context. It is about looking at the city through the field of architecture, recognizing in it its problems and qualities and thinking of them as opportunities for transformation and renewal, always based on the marks and aspects of the place and the people who live there, in hope of positively conditioning this social structure.
