Resumo: The present dissertation collects elements for the valuation of Casal de São José, a work by the architect Francisco Keil do Amaral, built in 1944, in Beira Alta. With a farmhouse program, it is a testimony to the consolidation of the bridge between modernity and tradition advocated by the architect, achieved through an understanding of the building territory. After framing Keil's work in the outcome of the first half of the XXth century, the approach to Casal de São José requires the study of the architect's professional career prior to the work, the study of available documentation, the architectural survey of the project, and reflection on the safeguarding of works from the modern period and its ability to formulate solutions for the future of the built environment.
