Resumo: Exploring the hypothesis that touristification in Portugal has particularities related to the country's economic crisis and subsequent austerity policies, this article explores artistic activities to guarantee the right to housing in Oporto. It focuses on the so-called "socially committed art", presenting fifteen projects carried out between 2018 and early 2020. On the background of these artistic activities, the article discusses the process of creation, context and communicational strategies, underlying discourses and objectives, highlighting tensions and paradoxes. Finally, it reflects on the role of art and artists for the establishment and dissemination of a critique of gentrification.
