Resumo: The present work seeks, in the first place, to reflect on the tension between unbridled post-modern consumerism and the pressing need to preserve the environment, addressing the new paradigms that emerged from the European Green Deal. With the COVID-19 pandemic, the restrictions on mobility and the confinement measures adopted by some countries have changed the population’s consumption habits, but hyperconsumerism continues to be a strong feature of today’s society. The study provides a brief overview of the change in consumption habits caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, problematizing the new challenges facing the urgency of adopting sustainable development measures.

Com a pandemia de COVID-19, muito embora as restrições de mobilidade e as medidas de confinamento adotadas por alguns países tenham modificado os hábitos de consumo da população, o hiperconsumo continua a ser uma forte característica da sociedade atual.
