Resumo: | The present work seeks, in the first place, to reflect on the tension between unbridled post-modern consumerism and the pressing need to preserve the environment, addressing the new paradigms that emerged from the European Green Deal. With the COVID-19 pandemic, the restrictions on mobility and the confinement measures adopted by some countries have changed the population’s consumption habits, but hyperconsumerism continues to be a strong feature of today’s society. The study provides a brief overview of the change in consumption habits caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, problematizing the new challenges facing the urgency of adopting sustainable development measures. |

Os desafios ambientais frente ao hiperconsumo e o episódio da pandemia de COVID-19The present work seeks, in the first place, to reflect on the tension between unbridled post-modern consumerism and the pressing need to preserve the environment, addressing the new paradigms that emerged from the European Green Deal. With the COVID-19 pandemic, the restrictions on mobility and the confinement measures adopted by some countries have changed the population’s consumption habits, but hyperconsumerism continues to be a strong feature of today’s society. The study provides a brief overview of the change in consumption habits caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, problematizing the new challenges facing the urgency of adopting sustainable development measures.O presente trabalho busca, em primeiro lugar, problematizar a tensão existente entre o consumismo desenfreado pós-moderno e a premente necessidade de preservação do meio ambiente, abordando os novos paradigmas emergidos a partir do Pacto Ecológico Europeu.
