Resumo: The present investigation took on Architectural Competitions as study object, raising the question of their proposal as Promoting Spaces of Creativity Freedom. The aim of the work was to create a reasoned understanding, in favor of the proposal of an enlargement of the Architect's Creative Space, as underlying of Competitions. Aware that a consistent investigation rests on an historicist foundation, we set off from the historical contextualization of the object and problematic of study, to the construction of a theoretical model which critically interpreted the process of creating Architecture, in a Competition context. The conclusions of this model were then submitted to the approval of a panel of selected Architects. This phase, theoretical, resorted to the scientific investigation technique of comparability, instructed by a literature review, complemented by interviews to reference Architects. On a second phase, practical, the approach was to critically present 3 case studies, with personal participation, as part of professional performance: the Competitions of the Château de Beaucastel, the Fundiestamo Student Residence, and the South Vertex of the FCG Park. The approach of these case studies rests on a revision of the line which builds each one's Creative Process, referencing on the theoretical conclusions of the constructed model. This second phase resorted to an operative technique of selection and analysis of case studies with personal participation, whose source treatment also resorted to the comparative method. From the conducted study, we have concluded that Architectural Competitions indeed constitute Promoting Spaces of Creative Freedom, by introducing a needed Distancing between Client and Architect, by providing a Competitive Atmosphere among Participants, empowering of an intense pursuit of differing innovation, through being generally related to Project exercises that, with more resources available, promote liberties of creation and intersection, and by introducing intensity and objectivity into the Creative Process of Teams, through their time restrictions. We thus understand that, from here, results the fertile atmosphere that originates substantive systems of elevated Creativity in the context of Competitions. Abstract.
