A utopia de um "Cego": A formação de atletas como meio de sustentabilidade dos clubes de futebol

This dissertation aims to understand the path football clubs should follow in the future so that they can achieve self-sustainability, both financially and sportively. Nowadays, and with the appearance of many magnates, who, due to their enormous financial power, look at football as an important economic source that has completely transformed the football business. Nevertheless, it is imperative to understand where the clubs athletes' formation stands in these new organizational models and if a real bet on the athletes trained in the clubs and their use for the main teams can be a way of sustainability of the clubs, both at a financial as well as at a sportive level. An interview script was drawn up and it was applied to 4 sports agents (2 managers and 2 coaches) from a club in the first Portuguese league, with the same questions for everyone, to try to understand where the opinion diverged or converged. The general opinion is that it may be possible to have a bet on the formation and still obtain good financial and sports results, but the interviewees opted for the same pitch and stated that in order to obtain excellent results, a bet on formation alone will not be enough. There must be a balance between the investment on players trained in the house and the hiring of already made players and with recognized quality to maintain a good balance between the financial and the sportive area.
