Training of psychologists in the State of Bahia: old or new paradigms in the field of ethnic-racial discussion?

Resumo: This qualitative, exploratory and descriptive study investigated ethnic-racial training in Psychology courses at public universities in the State of Bahia, Brazil. It was therefore configured as a documentary study since it was developed from the analysis of 324 syllabuses of mandatory subjects, from 06 Psychology courses offered in Bahia. In this analysis, 14 syllabuses were identified that were subjected to processing in the Iramuteq software, which enabled the construction of the word cloud and similarity analysis. The results pointed that the Federal University of Southwest Bahia has the largest number of subjects with the discussion of race in the psychology course. In general, social psychology and mental health had a greater number of disciplines on racial issues, with an emphasis on the care process. It was evident that although some syllabuses enable the discussion of ethnic-racial themes in a decolonial way, using black authors as references, there are still curricula that strongly have a colonial ancestry in the production of knowledge, especially using only north american and european references. We identified that there are, currently, incipient disciplines that include ethnic-racial discussions that can contribute to combating discrimination and racism in psychology training.

Se configuró, por lo tanto, como un estudio documental, ya que se desarrolló a partir del análisis de 324 planes de estudios de disciplinas obligatorias, de 06 cursos de psicología ofrecidos en Bahia. En el presente análisis, 14 menús fueron identificados y sometidos a tratamiento en el software Iramuteq, lo que posibilitó la construcción de la nube de palabras y el análisis de similitud. Los resultados mostraron que la Universidad Federal del Suroeste de Bahía tiene el mayor número de disciplinas con discusión sobre la raza en el curso de psicología. En general, la psicología social y de la salud mental tuvo un mayor número de temas sobre cuestiones raciales, con énfasis en el proceso de cuidar. Quedó claro que aunque algunos de los planes de estudios permiten discutir el tema étnico-racial de manera decolonial, utilizando como referencia a autores negros, todavía existen currículos que tienen una fuerte ascendencia colonial en la producción de conocimiento, especialmente utilizando solo referencias norteamericanas y europeas. Identificamos que, actualmente, las disciplinas que contemplan discusiones étnico-raciales son incipientes, evidenciando la urgencia de abordar el tema en la formación en psicología. Este estudo qualitativo, exploratório e descritivo investigou a formação étnico-racial nos cursos de psicologia das universidades públicas do Estado da Bahia, Brasil. Configurou-se, portanto, como um estudo documental, uma vez que foi desenvolvido a partir da análise de 324 ementas de disciplinas obrigatórias de 06 cursos de psicologia ofertados na Bahia. Nesta análise foram identificadas 14 ementas que tiveram seus textos submetidos ao tratamento no software Iramuteq, o que possibilitou a construção da nuvem de palavras e da análise de similitude. Os resultados apontaram que a Universidade Federal do Sudoeste da Bahia possui o maior número de disciplinas com a discussão sobre raça no curso de Psicologia. Em geral, a psicologia social e da saúde mental tiveram maior número de disciplinas sobre questões raciais, com ênfase no processo de cuidado. Ficou evidente que apesar de algumas ementas possibilitarem a discussão da temática étnico-racial de forma decolonial, ainda existem currículos que fortemente possuem uma ascendência colonial na produção de conhecimento, sobretudo utilizando apenas referências norte-americanas e europeias.
