This Dissertation focuses on a project-under-construction. It is the evolution (of the attempt of resolution) of a personal conflict which arose from a clash between a set of references (from the realm of the current) acquired before and outside School and another set of references (from the poetic dimension) acquired during and within it. To inform this project-under-construction a batch of personal experiences, reflections about the architectural space and two opportunities of action/project are summoned. Standing out amongst them, for greater relevance, are the Casa-dos- Avós [Grandparent's House], where I grew up, and the quartos de M. [M's rooms], which I gradually occupied after getting in School. The reflections about the architectural space are diverse regarding both quality and depth; some are disciplinary and other appear closer to common-sense. Out of the disciplinary reflections some have a particular emphasis, such as the contributions by Christian Norberg- Schulz, Martin Heidegger, Herman Hertzberger and N. J. Habraken. However, these contributions, alone, are not sufficient to answer the conflict. Reason why the two opportunities for real action - the remodel of an apartment and a study for a house (D-D House) - are taken as complements to the instruction of this project we have under construction. During this process we seek to understand the part of the architect and the part of the common-man in space; as well as to identify the points that favour the poetic inhabiting, which reveals sensations richer than those of the immediate experience. In order to do so, the object of analysis is mostly what is current, mundane, anonymous and/but poetic in architecture; in other words, we often approach architecture beyond the architect, through ways of living and the inhabitants's practices in space. The answers for both project opportunities are the call of the conflict and/to the escape from it; they are also the transformation of personal conflict into communion: harmony between the current and poetic universes, between popular and technical knowledge, between the common-man and the architect.
