Ou seja, qual seria o impacto de WebQuests de curta e de longa duração no desenvolvimento de competências diferenciadas na aprendizagem dos alunos, tais como: conhecimento, compreensão, aplicação, análise, síntese e avaliação. O estudo foi aplicado numa turma do 8.ºAno e envolveu as unidades “Semelhança de Triângulos” e “Lugares Geométricos” do programa do referido ano de escolaridade. Para tal foram aplicadas duas WebQuests envolvendo os conteúdos das unidades referidas anteriormente e cuja personagem principal foi Harry Potter. A WebQuest “Semelhança de Triângulos”, de curta duração, foi criada pela investigadora e envolveu a descoberta do mistério do quadro roubado por parte dos alunos. Os objetivos desta WebQuest foram a aquisição e aplicação dos critérios de semelhança de triângulos e a compreensão da relação entre o perímetro de figuras semelhantes. No final, foi requerido aos alunos que elaborassem uma notícia sobre a resolução do mistério. A WebQuest “Lugares Geométricos”, de longa duração, envolveu a descoberta de um cofre mágico que está guardado numa torre na Floresta Proibida. Aquando da realização desta WebQuest, foi pedido aos alunos que elaborassem um portefólio com as atividades propostas ao longo das sessões. Atendendo à natureza do estudo, adoptou-se predominantemente uma metodologia de tipo quasi-experimental. Para a recolha de dados utilizaram-se questionários, testes de avaliação de conhecimentos, observação direta e análise dos artefactos. De acordo com a opinião dos alunos e da professora, o trabalho com as WebQuests foi interessante e motivante e permitiu que os alunos aprendessem de forma autónoma e ao seu ritmo. Os resultados dos testes revelaram, uma vez mais, que as WebQuests constituem uma metodologia apelativa e que possibilita usar as potencialidades da Web de forma eficaz e orientada. A WebQuest de curta duração fomentou nos alunos o desenvolvimento das competências: conhecimento, compreensão e avaliação. A de longa duração permitiu desenvolver as competências referidas anteriormente e ainda as de análise, síntese e avaliação, ou seja, as Higher Order Thinking Skills.This study aimed to investigate the relationship between the use of WebQuests in teaching Mathematics and the development of Higher Order Thinking Skills in students. That is, what is the impact of short and long term WebQuests on the development of different skills in students’ learning, such as knowledge, comprehension, application, analysis, synthesis and evaluation. Thus, this study was applied to a 8th form class and the units involved were "Similarity of Triangles" and "Geometric Places” belonging to the curriculum of that same form. For this purpose we applied two WebQuests involving the contents of the units mentioned and whose main character was Harry Potter. The WebQuest "Similar Triangles", with short duration, was created by the researcher herself and involved the discovery by the students of the mystery of the stolen painting. The objectives of this WebQuest were the acquisition and application of criteria of similarity of triangles and the understanding of the relationship between the perimeter of similar figures. At the end, students were required to draw up a report on the resolution of the mystery. The WebQuest "Geometric Places", of long duration, involved the discovery of a magic safe guarded in a tower in the Forbidden Forest. Upon the completion of this WebQuest, students were asked to prepare a portfolio with the proposed activities throughout the sessions. Given the nature of the study, the methodology adopted was a quasi-experimental one. For data collection, the instruments used were questionnaires, post-tests, direct observation and the artifacts analysis. According to the students’ and teacher’s opinion, working with WebQuests was interesting and motivating and allowed the students to learn independently and at their pace. The results of the post-tests revealed, once again, that WebQuests are an appealing methodology to make use of the Web potential in an effective and oriented way. The short-term WebQuest fostered students’ development of knowledge, understanding and evaluation.
