Resumo: The communication discusses the relevance and timeliness of new approaches to museological intervention in the last decades of the twentieth century. Indeed, these approaches are particularly innovative in introducing a special opening of the museum space to the community, able to incorporate their experiences, knowledge and traditions, while local social actors gives an active role of effective intervention and participation in process of building the museum, thereby contributing to the ownership of the museum by the community. Also, inspired them, the museum should still be able to meet the needs and concerns of the local community by introducing a fundamental component of training and education (assuming this context an important environmental issue). One of the most innovative and distinctive aspects of this conceptual and methodological proposal is that they are mostly locals and their local culture the first and foremost concern of the museum - they are both his main public and principal promoter. However, it does not understand such concerns of the museum as a mechanism for closing the community since, in contrast, it aspires to be an openness and appreciation of local singularities. The museum structure takes an huge potential as a means of fostering local and regional culture, in a logic of integrated development and social cohesion, while ensuring the future territorial sustainability, introducing elements of value and differentiation. In this sense, it is intended to emphasize the commitment to culture as an emerging component of the current touristic demand and as a fundamental element of economic sustainability.
