Resumo: The global reduction of carbon emissions has become a political priority in recent years, with governments under pressure to mitigate the effects of climate change. The development of the Renewable Energy Resource Specifications has allowed UNFC to be applied to renewable energy resources, in an attempt to establish a consistent way of comparing renewable and non-renewable energy resources in fair terms. Classification of solar resources using solar specifications is expected to become an important source of information for investors, project managers and energy-related authorities and governments. It helps to facilitate the monitoring of solar energy portfolios, investment opportunities and, in doing so, supports decision making. In addition, solar specifications provide important terms, concepts and definitions for the classification of solar energy. Following the proposed specifications that allow UNFC to be applicable to solar energy, two case studies have shown how these could be applied in practice. The Centro Intergeracional da Pegada Project and the EET de Mangualde Project were chosen as real cases, with the aim of representing two scenarios with similar installed powers but located in different areas of Portugal. Using a simplified scenario approach for the quantification of Solar Energy Resources, and an assessment of technical feasibility and socio-economic assessment, a complete classification for Solar Energy Resources in accordance with UNFC has been provided, with the feasibility of both Projects confirmed.
