Medical Use of Cannabis and Cannabinoids: Questions and Answers for Policymaking

Resumo: The European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction published in December 2017 the document «Medical use of cannabis and cannabinoids: Questions and answers for policymaking», which aims to provide information and answers on the clinical and regulatory issues that arise when consideration is given to making cannabis or cannabinoids available to treat the symptoms of medical illnesses. The report covers a broad range of topics: summarises the evidence on the medicinal properties of cannabis and cannabinoids; provides a general outline of legal and regulatory frameworks relevant to allowing cannabis and cannabinoids to be used for medical purposes; gives examples of the legal and regulatory instruments that selected countries have implemented to allow the medical use of these products and identifies the regulatory challenges needed to address in the decision-making process regarding this matter. We publish below a brief summary of each of the topics covered in this document. O documento cobre um conjunto de tópicos: descreve de forma sumária a evidência científica atualmente disponível relativamente às propriedades clínicas da canábis e produtos derivados; providencia um enquadramento geral da legislação em vigor aplicável à utilização destes produtos para fins medicinais; apresenta exemplos dos mecanismos legais e regulamentares implementados por determinados países para permitir a utilização para fins medicinais da canábis e produtos derivados e identifica os desafios de carácter regulatório necessários ter em consideração no processo de tomada de decisão relativamente a esta matéria.
