Resumo: Background: Among pregnant women, recent literature concludes that 10% of these women have an history of cannabis consumption, during their pregnancy. It would be easy to deduce that the use of marijuana during pregnancy would have deleterious effects on the fetus and newborn, mainly in their growth and fetal morbidity and mortality. However, the existent bibliography is still very divergent, so health practitioners must pay attention to the approach and counseling of these women. Objectives: Conclude about the main consequences of cannabis use, during pregnancy, in the newborn, mainly on their growth and development and approach, in a clearer way, most of the literature concerning this subject. Methods: Pubmed was used as database and the research was done based on the query "Marijuana use AND pregnancy AND fetus". The articles concerning the subject were selected after reading its abstracts and other articles, included in the bibliography, were added to this revision article. Results and conclusion: Marijuana use during pregnancy has concordant results, in the existent literature, concerning his effects in the neuropsychiatric and emotional development of the newborn, as well as in the first years of life, school age and adolescence, having many deleterious effects in this context. When approaching fetal growth and morbidity, the results are more divergent, mainly because of confounding factors, like tobacco and use of other recreational drugs.
