Resumo: The carte de visite (CdV), developed by André-Adolphe-Eugène Disdéri, was one of the most widespread photographic formats in the History of First Photography (1839-1914). Albumin poses on 7 x 10 cm cards became forms of recording, exchange and diffusion of portraits, but also of other categories and themes, such as social and landscape motifs. The back and obverse of the cards often carried iconographic and textual information that documented both the authorship of the photograph and the identification of the commercial house where the CdV was produced. Through a set of Portuguese CdV, from our private collection, we have tried to analyse the information contained in the cards registered according to several processes and which constitute an important testimony on the advertising of professional and commercial houses and photographers in Portugal in the 1860s-1890s
