Como resultado final resultou a reescrita do corpus historiográfico deste complexo monástico, confirmando-se alguns dos pressupostos anteriores, infirmando-se alguns outros; Abstract: From document to archeology in the Convent of Bom Jesus de Viana do Alentejo - The Convent of Bom Jesus in Viana do Alentejo was the only female monastery of the Hieronymite congregation that existed in Portugal. Started to be built in the beginning of the second half of the 16th century, hundreds of nuns and women of other conditions passed through it, reaching its peak in the middle of the 18th century. Closed when the last nun died, in 1902, the following decades will have been its saeculum horrendum, having reached the beginning of the 21st century very uncharacterized and in great ruin. Recently acquired by a private individual, it has been the subject of major rehabilitation works with the collaboration of an archaeologist. His function is to record all the structures that supported the daily life of its inhabitants, many of them now uncovered, their genesis and changes over time. In addition to the methodologies typical of conventional archaeology and architectural archaeology, it was possible to apply a practice based on a previous critical reading of all available bibliographic and documentary sources that deal with or that were produced in this community, in order to alert the archaeologist's gaze, when at work, for the smallest signs of structures that are often completely gone. As a final result, the historiographical corpus of this monastic complex was rewritten, confirming some of the previous assumptions, and invalidating some others. |
