Tolkien, acreditamos estar em condições de apresentar uma tradução portuguesa anterior. Igualmente, julgamos poder demonstrar que a tradução, agora em causa, ficou a dever-se ao facto de, à semelhança de múltiplas culturas e países, desde logo nos acontecimentos de maio de 68 em Paris, mas a que também não escaparam o Brasil e Portugal, a obra de Tolkien e, em particular O Hobbit, ter sido utilizado como bandeira de contracultura. Para tal, justificamos o seu uso, desde logo, na adesão do próprio autor ao movimento dos Inklings que não se reviam na corrente modernista inglesa representada pelo grupo de Bloomsbury. Assim, começaremos por compreender, em primeiro lugar, como é que o universo da obra de Tolkien, em particular, O Hobbitpode ser contextualizado no pensamento do autor; seguidamente, pretendemos aferir a sua recepção e leitura pelo movimento de contestação, no século passado, com ênfase para o maio de68 em Paris; nesse trilho passaremos a apresentar a tradução da obra como manifestação de apoio aos movimentos de contracultura a que assistimos tanto no Brasil como em Portugal, em momentos políticos e sociais de menor liberdade de expressão. Terminaremos questionando a adaptação da obra de Tolkien a texto fílmico, justamente numa nova época de desagregação política, social e cultural. Traditionally attributed to Brazil the first translation of The Hobbitby J.R.R. Tolkien, we believe we are able to present a Portuguese translation dated before the brazilien one. We also believe that we can demonstrate that the translation, now under discussion, was due to the fact that, similarly to multiple cultures and countries, from the beginning of the events of May 68 in Paris, but also that Brazil and Portugal, Tolkien's work, and in particular The Hobbit, was used as a counterculture flag. To this end, we justify its use as a counterculture, right from the start, in the author's own adhesion to the Inklings movement which refused the English modernist current represented by the Bloomsbury group. Thus, we will begin by understand, first, how the universe of Tolkien's work, in particular, The Hobbit,can be contextualized in the author's thought; then, we intend to check its reception and reading by the protests movements, in the last century, with an emphasis on May 68 in Paris; along this path, we will start to present the translation of the work as a manifestation of support for the counterculture movements that we witness both in Brazil and in Portugal, in political and social moments of less freedom of expression.
