Nesta dissertação o sublime é colocado em relação à atualidade, maioritariamente nos filmes de terror. Mostrando não só a dificuldade de chegar a uma definição sobre o conceito filosófico referido, porém a sua fácil e quase óbvia ligação com o mundo do cinema do terror. Fazendo uma passagem histórica sobre a evolução da definição do sublime, chegando a uma definição própria para uma ligação com os filmes de terror apresentados. Apresentada também uma breve descrição no que consiste um filme de terror e alguns dos subgéneros que nele se enquadram: slasher, found footage, psychological horror, thriller, gore, supernatural, teen horror, trash, sci-fi. O contraste da indústria filmográfica do género de terror no estrangeiro em comparação com Portugal, mostra o disinteresse por parte do último, devido não só à falta de filmes do género mas falta de filmes em geral. O desinteresse por parte da Antropologia em considerar o estudos filmográficos como estudos da sociedade onde estes são originais fazendo com que estes descartem grande parte da história da cultura. Acabando a dissertação com o trabalho de campo no festival impulsinador de terror em Portugal, Motel X, onde, com base nos testemunhos, foi possível perceber o que leva alguém a gostar de terror, o que leva alguém a ver filmes de terror, ou pelo contrário o que leva alguém a não gostar dos filmes.The existence of the sublime is something discussed by philosophers since antiquity, being connected with literary pieces, such as Odyssey and Frankenstein. In this dissertation, the sublime is put in relation to the now, mostly in horror movies. Showing, not only how hard it is to get to the definition of the philosophy concept mentioned, but also how easy, and basically obvious, the connection with horror movies is. With the historical evolution of the various definitions of the sublime, getting to a definition made my the author to connect with the horror movies shown. The dissertation also has a brief description of what makes a horror movie, and some of it’s subgeners: slasher, found footage, psychological, thriller, gore, supernatural, teen horror, trash, sci-fi. The difference of the international horror film industry compared with the portuguese, shows the lack of portuguese interest in the genre, not only for lack of horror movies, but lack of movies in general. The lack of interest by anthropologists in considering film study as a study of the society where they are set, this way they discart a big part of cultural history,since the folclore is a big part of the culture.
