The social movement concept under debate: from the sixties to the present day

Resumo: Departing from the notion of social movement advanced by the theories of resource mobilization, political process and new social movements, the article aims to trace different analytical paths traversed by the studies on social movements and collective action. In this discussion it’s considered the hypothesis that over the past few decades, as the macro-structural approaches were giving way to contributions more focused on the micro-social processes and features of social movements, the debate around the concept of social movement may have lost the relevance assumed by earlier analysis developed during the 1960s and 1970s.

En esta discusión se parte de la hipótesis de que, a lo largo de las últimas décadas, en cuanto que los abordajes macro-estructurales fueron dando lugar a contribuciones más centradas en los procesos y en las características micro-sociales de los movimientos sociales, el debate en torno del concepto de movimiento social podrá haber perdido la importancia asumida por los análisis de los años 60 y 70.À partir de la notion de mouvement social avancée par les théories de la mobilisation des ressources, du processus politique et des nouveaux mouvements sociaux, cet article trace les différents chemins analytiques parcourus dans les études des mouvements sociaux et de l’action collective. Il part de l’hypothèse selon laquelle, au long des dernières décennies, à mesure que les approches macrostructurales ont cédé la place à des contributions plus centrées sur les processus et sur les caractéristiques microsociales des mouvements sociaux, le débat autour du concept de mouvement social pourrait avoir perdu l’importance assumée par les analyses des années 1960 et 1970.A partir da noção de movimento social avançada pelas teorias da mobilização de recursos, do processo político e dos novos movimentos sociais, pretende-se traçar os diferentes caminhos analíticos percorridos nos estudos dos movimentos sociais e da ação coletiva.
