Resumo: Background: Urinary incontinence is an extremely common phenomenon in the elderly, being considered a geriatric syndrome due to its high prevalence and impact on quality of life. As a condition that is rarely reported and underdiagnosed, resulting from the social stigma that often exists or because it is perceived as an inevitable consequence of the natural aging process, it requires particular attention in the intervention of nurses. Objectives: To describe urinary incontinence as a health problem in the elderly; Identify the educational intervention of nurses as a facilitating strategy for self-care for elderly people with urinary incontinence. Methodology: Narrative review of the literature on urinary incontinence in elderly people, with a focus on nursing intervention. Conclusion: The support-education nursing intervention is crucial for the self-care of the elderly person with urinary incontinence.
