Resumo: Mediation, specifically community mediation, may be considered as a form of social intervention geared towards social change. Seeing it in this way demands, however, that the ethos of mediation is taken into account. It is important to equate the traditional neutral and impartial status of the mediator with the desire to generate social change, as well as to investigate the possibility of conciliating the mediation of a case with the defence of causes.
