Resumo: This is a collection of essays dedicated to a critique of the European tradition of ethnographic studies, with particular reference to the Mediterraneanist School of Oxford. The book was a critical response to postmodern culturalism and a defence of an historicist and politically engaged approach to ethnographic engagement. It includes a decided critique of the discoursivist approach that was dominant at the time.
