The Covid-19 Pandemic, New Coronavirus, brought about profound changes for higher education teachers. Since the imposition of teleworking as an obligation, forcing migration to distance learning and social isolation as a way to prevent the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. The challenges and adaptation to distance learning in this health context surprised teachers with the obligation of mandatory lockdown and without any time of preparation or training that in the short term had an impact on professional and personal life. After the improvement of the sanitary crisis experienced in Portugal, it was possible to relieve restrictions and the lack of definition that led to the implementation of the Bi-Modal hybrid education system as a new teaching method experienced by higher education teachers, which consists of face-to-face and distance classes simultaneously using telematic means. The aim of this study is to understand the perception of higher education teachers about teleworking during the periods of the first lockdown in Portugal and the period of the hybrid Bi-Modal education system. Specifically, it is intended to identify the impact of telework, and the hybrid Bi-Modal teaching system on Higher Education teachers in the physical and psychosocial dimensions, namely changes in well-being, stress, general health, vitality, mental health, positive emotions and negative emotions during these periods based on the experiences reported by teachers during Pandemic Covid-19. This is a basic or generic qualitative study with 63 teachers from a Higher Education institution in Coimbra, Portugal. The data were collected from a form available online during the period between 11 December 2020 and 11 February 2021. The results show that 42.8% of respondents show the same changes in terms of well-being comparatively between the period of the first lockdown and the period of the hybrid education system Bi-Modal. The remaining participants of the study 57.1%, about 36.5% of them consider that the conditions in terms of well-being were worse during the first lockdown. Only 20.6% of the sample considered that the Bi-Modal hybrid education system brought improvements in well- being compared to the period of lockdown. It can be concluded that the Bi-Modal system, despite requiring greater concentration due to the difficulty in managing two plans, face-to-face and distance students simultaneously, shows improvements in well- being compared to the lockdown period. |
