Utiliza-se o Método das Narrativas de Associação Livre (Hollway & Jefferson, 2000) para aceder ao sujeito e à sua subjetividade. Foram realizadas três entrevistas de três mulheres de etnia cigana, do mesmo agregado familiar. O nome fictício atribuído às participantes foram, Maria (53 anos), Joana (33 anos) e Marta (18 anos). A escolha destas participantes provém do propósito de observar o que acontece ao nível geracional. Quanto aos temas centrais das entrevistas, destacaram-se não só a representação do feminino e do masculino, mas também a identidade, o poder do grupo e o contexto público e privado. Conclui-se, como as três entrevistadas disseram nas suas narrativas, a “tradição está a mudar” e a transmissão psíquica diferente entre Maria, Joana e Marta, sendo a diferença bastante acentuada de Maria para Marta. Destacou-se que, a função feminina é a de regular a sexualidade das filhas e toda a esfera privada, como cuidar da família e da casa, enquanto a função masculina é a de regular as leis na esfera pública. A função masculina vai sendo desprovida de poder, geracionalmente. Ao nível identitário, relevou-se uma ambivalência identitária étnica sobre a pertença ou não pertença. Destacaram-se valores como a fidelidade e seriedade. O casamento (endogâmico) surge como um marco importante na vida das mulheres ciganas. Por fim, o grupo detém o poder de regular, mas este poder, vai sendo atenuado.ABSTRACT: The aim of this study is to understand the representation of the feminine, for gypsy women. The Free Association Narrative Method (Hollway & Jefferson, 2000) is used to access the subject and her subjectivity. Three interviews of three gypsy women from the same household were conducted. The fictitious names assigned to the participants were, Maria (53 years old), Joana (33 years old) and Marta (18 years old). The choice of these participants comes from the purpose of observing what happens at the generational level. As for the central themes of the interviews, not only the representation of femininity and masculinity stood out, but also identity, group power, and the public and private context. It is concluded, as the three interviewees said in their narratives, that "tradition is changing" and the psychic transmission is different between Maria, Joana and Marta, the difference being quite marked from Maria to Marta. It was emphasized that, the female function is to regulate the daughters' sexuality and the whole private sphere, such as taking care of the family and the house, while the male function is to regulate the laws in the public sphere. The male role is generationally disempowered. At the identity level, an ethnic identity ambivalence about belonging or not belonging was highlighted. Values such as fidelity and seriousness stand out. Marriage (endogamous) emerges as an important milestone in the lives of gypsy women.
