New and effective ways to manage and understand information are needed in order to deal with this growing complexity. Graphic and interface design can help. With roots in research on visual perception, the role of visualization is to ease the understanding and managing of complex information. In later work, we presented and applied a set of graphic and interface design fundamentals as hints to the representation of spatiotemporal information.
