Importance of the landscape as a resource in tourist planning

Resumo: The research was conducted in the canton Paltas in southern Ecuador. The objective was to determine the importance of the landscape as a resource within tourism planning. It was initiated by identifying existing landscapes in the study area. Landscapes were later valued and three criteria were used: landscape quality, social value and visibility. The quality of tourist attractions was assessed using 27 indicators; and the area of high valuation of the landscape was identified. Among the main results, it was found that there are nine landscapes, of which five of them are rated as "Very High"and "High". 23 tourist attractions were also identified, of which 18 are rated between high and medium. Finally, it can be concluded that the landscapes with the highest rating are those that have the most tourist attractions; they are highly valued by the population, and the area of high valuation of the landscape corresponds to the "urban landscape".

El objetivo fue determinar la importancia del paisaje como recurso dentro la planificación turística; se inició identificando los paisajes existentes en el área de estudio. Posteriormente se valoró los paisajes y se utilizó tres criterios: calidad paisajística, valor social y visibilidad. Se evaluó la calidad de los atractivos turísticos a través de 27 indicadores, y se identificó el área de alta valoración del paisaje. Entre los principales resultados se encontró que existen nueve paisajes de los cuales cinco se califican como ¨Muy alto¨ y ¨Alto¨. Se identificaron 23 atractivos turísticos, de los cuales 18 están con calificación entre alta y media.
