Augmented Reality applied to architectural drawings in the city of Oporto

Resumo: In the scope of the CODE project, that aims to investigate and promote the history of design teaching at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto (FAUP) in Portugal, a functional mobile prototype was developed using Augmented Reality (AR). It is intended to offer the visitors of Oporto a platform that allows them to explore the city through actual drawings in physical locations where they were designed. AR allows for overlapping and visual synchronizing of these drawings in real time in the city’s view from their location through a set of georeferenced points. In this article, we present the analysis that was the basis of the functional prototype developed and evaluated. The empirical study was based on the heuristic evaluation of usability among users with knowledge in interface design and later a final proto-type evaluation with users of the desired audience in a real context of interaction.

Pretende-se oferecer aos visitantes do Porto uma plataforma que possibilita explorar percetivamente cada desenho no local físico onde o mesmo foi concebido. A RA permite justapor e sincronizar visualmente estes desenhos, em tempo real, na vista da cidade a partir da sua localização e de um conjunto de pontos georreferenciados. Neste artigo é apresentada a análise que esteve na base do protótipo funcional desenvolvido e avaliado.
