O Desenho no Ensino da Arquitectura. O caso da Faculdade de Arquitectura da Universidade do Porto

Resumo: Standing out in the general panorama of higher educational institutions connected with Architecture, the Faculdade de Arquitectura da Universidade do Porto, becomes the case of study for this Master thesis. A remarkable institution at several levels, in which the teaching of drawing plays an essential part in its pedagogical strategy, an approach that accentuates its difference towards other higher educational establishments. Having as a main goal the role of drawing as an essential tool to think and conceive architecture, and its relevance in architectural teaching, this work focuses mainly in the subject of Projeto 1, where drawing seems to be fundamental since, unlike other schools, the students are encouraged not to use computers or other technological tools, in the first years of their academical journey. The following thesis is developed in three stages: the first one approaches the theme of architectural drawing, as well as all the subjects that its study implies; the second one, which, along with the first one, intends to introduce and complement the third stage, focuses on the Western European architect's training, along with the pedagogical relationship between drawing and Architecture's higher education in Portugal; finally, it is in the third stage of this work that the main goals and case of study are developed, and the importance of implementing drawing in the training of young architects in this faculty is known, as well as the methods introduced by its professors to encourage the use of drawing and how that reflects on and is learned by the students that experience this institution.
