Resumo: Our main arguments lie in the foundation and vindication of education as a global common good, with the explicit aim of expanding its pedagogical and social horizons. An education which in addition to projecting its teachings and learning throughout people's entire lives, is consistent with the emerging needs of a society in continuous transformation, favouring the culture of sustainability and the well-being of peoples in the Anthropocene Epoch. A historical time in which everyday realities -of planetary scope- cannot and must not ignore the impacts caused by the dependencies created by technology networks, the insatiable power of markets, complex migratory dynamics, poverty and social inequalities, socio-environmental deterioration and the climate emergency. In this scenario, we assume that educating in “the commons” is an essential civic task to build a new social contract for education, giving local communities a key role. Social Pedagogy has been proposing this since the early decades of the 20th century, emphasizing human and ecological rights, citizen participation, equity and social inclusion, individual and collective empowerment, and the values invoked by ethical cordiality.
