Resumo: João Carlos Celestino Gomes (Ílhavo, 1899 – Lisboa, 1960) published the novella Como Naufragou o Centauro (1924) in the collection «Novela da Beira-Mar», thus retaking sea themes and also our tragic-maritime history, resorting to a first person narrative. Through the labour of memory, which unfolds the string of words, theseaman with the deep green eyes tells the story of the shipwreck of the schooner
