The Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS - CoV - 2) is an RNA virus that was discovered for the first time in China, sparking a worldwide pandemic with economic and social consequences. This virus is responsible for COVID - 19 disease, a systemic infection based on the wide - ranging clinical signs. The scientific society has made an incredible effort to generate new therapeutics to treat and prevent the infection with SARS - CoV - 2, but the expenses behind it and the need for a treatment right away has led to a rush to repurposing approved drugs already on the market. In this paper we can find the existing literature regarding the SARS-CoV-2 virus, existing therapies, and emerging ones for COVID - 19, with a focusing on clinical trials so far conducted regarding possible efficacy of fluvoxamine, an SSRI and potent sigma-1 agonist, in the treatment for COVID - 19 and likely mechanism of action behind it.2022-09-29info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersioninfo:eu-repo/semantics/masterThesishttp://hdl.handle.net/10316/105739http://hdl.handle.net/10316/105739TID:203242289engMestre, Carolina Guerreiroinfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessreponame:Repositório Científico de Acesso Aberto de Portugal (Repositórios Cientìficos)instname:Agência para a Sociedade do Conhecimento (UMIC) - FCT - Sociedade da Informaçãoinstacron:RCAAP2023-03-07T21:34:16Zoai:estudogeral.uc.pt:10316/105739Portal AgregadorONGhttps://www.rcaap.pt/oai/openaireopendoar:71602024-03-19T21:22:15.523146Repositório Científico de Acesso Aberto de Portugal (Repositórios Cientìficos) - Agência para a Sociedade do Conhecimento (UMIC) - FCT - Sociedade da Informaçãofalse |
