Introdu??o: A mentaliza??o ? uma capacidade humana fortemente ligada a aspetos relacionais e necess?ria no mundo social. Face ao crescimento da teoria da mentaliza??o, tanto no campo da investiga??o como no dom?nio da interven??o psicoterap?utica, s?o necess?rios instrumentos que permitam avaliar essa capacidade tendo em conta a sua natureza multidimensional, cujo desequil?brio se encontra relacionado com manifesta??es psicopatol?gicas. Objetivos: A presente investiga??o teve como objetivo a tradu??o e adapta??o do Multidimensional Mentalizing Questionnaire (MMQ), o estudo da sua estrutura fatorial, a analise da validade convergente e divergente, a avalia??o da confiabilidade e a avalia??o da estabilidade temporal. M?todo: An?lises psicom?tricas foram levadas a cabo numa amostra de 408 indiv?duos (53,2% mulheres, 46,8% homens; M = 37.22), exceto na estabilidade temporal que foi conduzida numa subamostra de 41 indiv?duos que preencheram de novo o MMQ 3 a 4 semanas ap?s a primeira administra??o. Resultados: A An?lise Fatorial Confirmat?ria (AFC) sugeriu um modelo re-especificado com 30 itens, apresentando bom ajustamento e validade fatorial. A vers?o portuguesa do MMQ apresentou uma consist?ncia interna adequada, assim como estabilidade temporal. Ainda que fossem notadas algumas incongru?ncias, a generalidade das correla??es estabelecidas na validade convergente e divergente foram ao encontro da literatura cient?fica. N?o foram encontradas diferen?as estatisticamente significativas entre sexos no que toca ? capacidade de mentalizar. A correla??o entre a mesma capacidade e o n?mero de anos de escolaridade foi positiva, ainda que fraca. Conclus?o: A vers?o portuguesa do MMQ apresenta-se como um instrumento de autorresposta promissor, ainda que poss?veis modifica??es possam contribuir para o seu aperfei?oamento no futuro. / Introduction: Mentalizing is a human capacity strongly linked to relational aspects and necessary in the social world. Given the growth of the theory of mentalization, both in the field of research and in the field of psychotherapeutic intervention, instruments are needed to assess this ability, taking into account its multidimensional nature, whose imbalance is related to psychopathological manifestations. Objectives: The present investigation aimed at the translation and adaptation of the Multidimensional Mentalizing Questionnaire (MMQ), the study of its factor structure, the analysis of convergent and divergent validity, the assessment of reliability and the assessment of temporal stability. Method: Psychometric analyzes were carried out on a sample of 408 subjects (53.2% women, 46.8% men; M = 37.22), except for temporal stability which was conducted on a subsample of 41 subjects who filled in the MMQ again 3 to 4 weeks after the first administration. Results: Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) suggested a re-specified model with 30 items, showing good fit and factor validity. The Portuguese version of the MMQ showed adequate internal consistency, as well as temporal stability. Although some incongruities were noted, the generality of the correlations established in the convergent and divergent validity were in agreement with the scientific literature. No statistically significant differences were found between sexes regarding the ability to mentalize. The correlation between the same ability and the number of years of education was positive, albeit weak. Conclusion: The Portuguese version of the MMQ presents itself as a promising self-response instrument, although possible modifications may contribute to its improvement in the future.
