Resumo: | Assessment is doubtlessly the word that scares students the most and all those subjected to it. It is, therefore, necessary to demystify this procedure, thus placing emphasis on formative assessment, shared with the student, in order to promote the learning process in a conscious and consistent manner. In this paper, I draw a brief reflection upon more than twenty-five years of Physical Education teaching and more than thirty-five years devoted to sports teaching/training in numerous modalities. Over these twenty-five years, I sought to engage in a so-called proximity teaching, reflective of my posture within the educational system, which has always been of service to the school community itself, by participating in several social and educational projects. As a teacher, I have always tried to innovate and create a student-centred style in my lessons, while respecting their growth and learning process. As a teacher, I have I tried to remain fully conscious of my work, where reflection has always been part of my daily life. Remaining in constant self-assessment is the key to a better performance, but sometimes such is not enough. It is, thus, necessary, to consider what others say about us and our work. Opinions may sometimes be less than pleasant, but they help us grow and correct, and are important in building an ever-changing occupation. In this 21st century, social changes take place at breakneck speed, and the school system needs to adapt quickly by teaching differently, while preparing the citizens of the future. Assessment is the key tool for education and it should help teachers in their constant reflection. Assessment takes on, therefore, a role of great importance, by assisting the student in learning and the teacher in teaching. |
