Resumo: This article analyses the John Updike novel The Terrorist, strictly from the semiotic point of view. We emphasize the narrative structure of this novel, which reveals both the strategy and the value system on which it is based. The Terrorist is, after all, a deceptive narrative, i.e., a narrative without resolution. In fact, the great merit of this novel is that it discusses the question of terrorism without resolving it.

O Terrorista é, ao fim e ao cabo, uma narrativa deceptiva, isto é, uma narrativa sem resolução. De facto, o seu grande mérito está na discussão da questão do terrorismo sem a resolver.
