Resumo: The article aims to analyze how the theme of the genocide that occurred in Cambodia (1975-1979) and the memory of the trauma are portrayed in the documentary The missing picture, directed by Rithy Pahn. The text reflects the construction of the documentary by the director Pahn, a victim of the Cambodian totalitarian regime, who had his family murdered by the Khmer Rouge Regime, and what were the strategies used to reconstruct a subjective, individual, and collective memory of the trauma experienced during his childhood. The article analyzes how the film works with diegetic, affective, and regimes of indicial image and seeks more an effect of memory than an effect of reality, by using images produced in clay and other materials, to represent the impossibility of narrating the genocide experienced during the Khmer totalitarian regime.

El texto refleja la construcción del documental del director Pahn, víctima del régimen totalitario camboyano, cuya familia fue asesinada por el Régimen Khmer, y cuáles fueron las estrategias utilizadas para reconstruir una memoria subjetiva, individual y colectiva del trauma vivido durante su infancia. El estudio analiza cómo la película trabaja con regímenes de imagen diegéticos, afectivos e indexicales y busca más un efecto de memoria que un efecto real, al utilizar imágenes producidas por la arcilla y otros materiales, para representar la imposibilidad de narrar el genocidio vivido durante el régimen totalitario de los jemeres.L'article vise à analyser comment le thème du génocide qui a eu lieu au Cambodge (1975-1979) et la mémoire du traumatisme sont dépeints dans le documentaire L’imagem manquante, réalisé par Rithy Pahn. Le texte rend compte de la construction du documentaire par le réalisateur Pahn, victime du régime totalitaire cambodgien, dont la famille a été assassinée par le régime Khmer Rouge, et quelles ont été les stratégies utilisées pour reconstruire une mémoire subjective, individuelle et collective du traumatisme vécu au cours de sa enfance. L'étude analyse comment le film travaille avec des régimes d'images diégétiques, affectifs et indexicaux et recherche plus un effet de mémoire qu'un effet réel, lorsqu'il utilise des images produites par l'argile et d'autres matériaux, pour représenter l'impossibilité de raconter le génocide vécu pendant le régime totalitaire des Khmers.O artigo tem como objetivo analisar como o tema do genocídio ocorrido no Camboja (1975-1979) e a memória do trauma são retratados no documentário “A Imagem que Falta”, dirigido por Rithy Pahn.
