The Ilhas do Porto have long been a question searching for the right answers. One of the major problems, in our days, are not exclusively linked to the poor housing conditions, but also the socio-spatial segregation, that these places undergo. The fact that these problems have not been resolved, demands a new approach. Even though throughout the years the ilhas have been used as an object of study for various investigations, the reality is that the spaces in the form of the construction of the houses were never understood as integrated factors. The present dissertation aims to analise a new dimension associated to the non-constructed spaces, in relation to the ilhas do Porto, located in Bonfim and Campanhã. For that, we will begin to analyse the existing relationship between the public policies and the construction of the urban system. After that, we will analyse the principles as guidelines for the implementation of these policies in the non-constructed spaces, and finally, illustrate that result through a specific case study. The understanding of these spaces needs two complementary dimensions. One is directly related to the negatives in the way that it occupies the interiors of the blocks, and the other one is related to the relationships that these organisms generate with the urban system where they are located. In this sense, the following dissertation proposes a reflective analysis about the contributions that the non-constructed spaces can offer to improve the quality of life of the population.
