Resumo: | Introduction: Colorectal cancer is one of the most common cancers in western world mainly due to lifestyle. This disease brings side-effects that lead to a decrease in quality of life. Diminishing sedentary behaviors and implementing programs of physical activity are measures to be adopted in order to improve quality of life of colorectal cancer survivors. Methods: This research project belongs to the Cancer Survivor Study (CASUS) on colon rectal patients, a prospective cohort study on cancer survivals. The profile of the participants was obtained through information about social and demographic characteristics like gender, age, civil status, education levels and smoking habits. The anthropometric measures evaluated were: weight, height and body mass index. The survey for quality of life was evaluated with the following questionnaire: European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire - Core 30 (EORTC QLQ-C30) and it was applied to 60 subjects with colorectal cancer from the gastroenteroly center from São João Hospital in Porto. Physical activity was assessed by the short version of the international questionnaire of physical activity. The association between quality of life and seated time was determined through linear regression models. Results: In terms of quality of life, the participants stated good results on the assessment of the general health status and on a functional scale. In the statistical analysis, we observed positive as well as negative associations link between seated time and quality of life after adjustment for age, gender and oncologic treatment. Conclusion: Seated time was negatively associated with quality of life in colorectal cancer survivors. |
