On March 11, 2020, COVID-19 was declared a pandemic. The general objective of this work is to evaluate the impacts of the health crisis on stock markets. The first specific objective is to analyse each market individually, highlighting its behaviour before and during the emergence of the current health crisis. The second specific objective is to verify the intensification of interdependence between markets in the face of COVID-19. The sample consists of daily observations of closing prices between January 2, 2019, and June 1, 2021, considering the cutting off point on December 31, 2019 of seven stock indices CAC 40, DAX, FTSE MIB, FTSE 100, PSI -20, S&P 500 and Shanghai SE 180. Through tests of stationarity, Pearson's correlation coefficient (r), “Granger” causality and DCCA, it is possible to verify that daily returns are stationary and that there is interdependence between markets. |
