Resumo: | Geological Time is a keystone concept to Geosciences and an important one to Biological Sciences, in which geological time perspective is crucial to understand evolution. However, geological time notion complexity hinders its comprehension, causing problems in the appropriate understanding of geological and evolutionary processes. Investigations have been made in order to understand the causes of apprehension difficulties of this concept by students and to propose ways of teaching Geological Time in a high school context, even though Brazil is in serious need of research works on that subject. Our work analyses the development of guidelines to approach Geological Time in Brazilian basic education and it presents a didactic sequence proposal to teach Geological Time in high school Biology classes, built along the methodological approach of Design Research. Our guidelines and didactic sequence are historically oriented, based on Burchfield’s (1998) perspective, and on orientations from Pedrinaci and Berillos (1994), in addition to other investigations on Geological Time, Geosciences and Evolution teaching. Our main suggestions are stimulating debate on Earth’s age; approaching Geology’s history; working basic concepts of Geology, Paleontology, Stratigraphy and Geochronology; highlighting a dynamic image of Earth; spatially representing geological time scale; working with historical narratives, especially Earth’s; and discussing Geological Time’s economical, political and cultural implications. |

Sin embargo, la complejidad de la noción de tiempo geológico dificulta su comprensión, ocasionando problemas en el entendimiento adecuado de procesos geológicos y evolutivos. Las investigaciones se han realizado para entender las causas de las dificultades de aprehensión de este concepto por los estudiantes y proponer formas de enseñar Tiempo Geológico en contexto escolar, aunque Brasil carece de investigaciones en ese sentido. Este estudio tiene por objetivo analizar el desarrollo de directrices para el abordaje de Tiempo Geológico en la educación básica brasileña y presentar una propuesta de secuencia didáctica para enseñanza de Tiempo Geológico en clases de Biología de la enseñanza secundaria, construidos de acuerdo con el enfoque metodológico de Design Research. Nuestras directrices y secuencia didáctica son históricas-orientadas, basadas en la perspectiva de Burchfield (1998) y orientaciones de Pedrinaci y Berjillos (1994), además de otras investigaciones sobre enseñanza de Tiempo Geológico, Geociencias y Evolución. Sugerimos, principalmente, estimular el debate sobre la edad de la Tierra; abordar la historia de la geología; trabajar conocimientos básicos de Geología, Paleontología, Estratigrafía y Geocronología; evidenciar una imagen dinámica de la Tierra; representar espacialmente la escala del tiempo geológico; trabajar con narraciones históricas, en especial, la historia de la Tierra; y discutir las implicaciones económica, política y cultural de la noción de tiempo geológico.Tempo geológico é um conceito central para Geociências e importante para Biologia, na qual a perspectiva geológica de tempo é crucial para o entendimento de evolução. No entanto, a complexidade da noção de tempo geológico dificulta sua compreensão, ocasionando problemas no entendimento adequado de processos geológicos e evolutivos. Investigações têm sido realizadas a fim de entender as causas das dificuldades de apreensão deste conceito por estudantes e propor formas de ensinar Tempo Geológico em contexto escolar, embora o Brasil careça de pesquisas nesse sentido. Este estudo tem por objetivo analisar o desenvolvimento de diretrizes para a abordagem de Tempo Geológico na educação básica brasileira e apresentar uma proposta de sequência didática para ensino de Tempo Geológico em aulas de Biologia do ensino médio, construídos de acordo com a abordagem metodológica da Design Research.
