Polymyalgia rheumatica, giant cell arteritis and myelodysplastic syndrome

Resumo: The authors reporta case of a 76 year old mate patient, with a previous diagnosis of polymyal­gia rheumatica, admitted because of fever. After investigation a giant cell artritis and a myelo­dysplastic syndrome (refractory anemia with excess blasts), were diagnosed. This association has been recently described by some authors. The physiopathology of these conditions suggest that there is a significant rather than a chance association.

Após investigação clínico-laboratorial, diagnosticou-se uma arterite temporal e um síndrome mielodisplási­co (anemia refractária com excesso de blastos).
