Graphic-visual composition at the Câmara Cascudo Museum UFRN: an education experience linked to a university extension action

Resumo: This paper presents the process of designing and executing a graphic-visual composition for the Câmara Cascudo Museum at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte [MCC/UFRN]. The project was developed within the scope of the Graphic Reproduction Techniques course from the Bachelor Degree of Design at UFRN, from an university extension project, in order to meet the museum's need to create ways to value its own space and its surroundings, believing that the action should contribute to the requalification of the extensive neutral area of the walls that delimits the Institution. Furthermore, this action was designed and developed to value both the community and the MCC/UFRN. TheMCC/UFRN is the largest and most relevant museum in the state; however, it lacks specialized groups, such as teams formed by professors and students from the Bachelor of Design at UFRN, which can put forth university extension actions to supply the needs for specialized staff in the area. Thus, this paper aims to reflect on a formative experience in undergraduate education, through the exploration of an artisanal technique of graphic reproduction (stencil technique). The proposed method for the development of the intervention project was divided into the following steps: information gathering, planning, design, and execution. At the end of the project, it was observed the improvement of the neighborhood and an appreciation of the urban space. These aspects can contribute to strengthening the identity and territorial belonging for the local community, the academic community as well as a better appreciation of MCC/UFRN. Furthermore, it is expected that this paper contributes to studies of the same order and to the development of similar projects.

Furthermore, it is expected that this paper contributes to studies of the same order and to the development of similar projects.  Este artigo apresenta o processo de criação e execução de uma composição gráfico-visual para o Museu Câmara Cascudo da Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte [MCC/UFRN]. O projeto foi desenvolvido no âmbito da disciplina Técnicas de Reprodução Gráfica do Bacharelado em Design da UFRN, e a partir de uma ação de extensão, para atender a necessidade do museu em criar meios de valorizar o espaço do museu e de seu entorno, acreditando que a ação deve contribuir para a requalificação da extensa área neutra do muro que delimita a Instituição. Ademais, esta ação foi pensada e desenvolvida para valorizar tanto a comunidade como o MCC/UFRN. Trata-se do maior e mais relevante museu do estado, no entanto, carece de equipes especializadas, a exemplo de grupos formados por docentes e discentes do Bacharelado em Design da UFRN, que podem tornar as ações de extensão universitária um caminho para suprir as lacunas de profissionais especializados na área. Dessa maneira, este artigo objetiva tecer reflexões sobre uma experiência formativa no ensino de graduação, a partir da exploração de uma técnica artesanal de reprodução gráfica (técnica do estêncil). O método proposto para o desenvolvimento do projeto de intervenção foi dividido nas etapas: levantamento de informações, planejamento, projeto e execução. Ao final do projeto, obteve-se como resultado uma melhoria para o bairro e a valorização do espaço urbano, aspectos que podem contribuir para o fortalecimento da identidade e o pertencimento territorial da comunidade local, da comunidade acadêmica e a valorização do MCC/UFRN.
