Not only are social media influencers successful in endorsing brands and products and in influencing purchase intentions of their audience, but they also can promote lifestyles in their platforms like healthy behaviour and fitness. This study aims to investigate the factors associated with the social media fitness influencers that can impact on users’ attitudes and behavioural intentions towards fitness goals, more concretely, weight loss and muscle gain. Furthermore, this study evaluates if the social media influencers’ source credibility and authenticity, the followers’ self-esteem and body image and the use of filters in the fitness content post impact significantly on users’ attitudes and behavioural intentions towards fitness goals. To conduct the study, a questionnaire was implemented to collect data from a sample of 231 participants, who are active users on Instagram and follow social media influencers. As result, it was found that fitness social media influencers’ trustworthiness, expertise, attractiveness and authenticity have a significant positive impact the followers’ behavioral intentions towards fitness goals. Moreover, social media influencers’ expertise is the greatest predictor of behavioral intentions towards fitness goals.
