Resumo: | Introduction: Palliative care (PC) is a growing care modality in the world, however, it is still a subject little addressed in Brazilian medical education, being present in only 14% of the courses. The aim of this study was to analyze medical education in PC in Brazilian schools according to the perception of teachers. Method: A qualitative method was used through semi-structured interviews with 38 teachers from 25 medical schools in the country. Results: The teachers' narratives were classified into three categories: curriculum insertion initiatives (Yesterday), how it is being taught and its challenges ("Today") and what are the prospects for the future ("Tomorrow"). The first category shows that teaching in PC was driven by the understanding of their need and initiatives of students and teachers. In the second, barriers were demonstrated, such as the deficit of trained teachers and the fragility of the network. The third category points out paths to the discipline, inserted in a humanistic transversal axis, which allows the acquisition of emotional skills and resilience in the face of the dying process. Conclusion: Teaching in PC promotes changes in the teaching-learning process by bringing the patient and family to the care center and contributes to the training of human resources in line with the needs pointed out by the health system. |
